The ideal candidate must be able to oversee all cultural art initiatives on behalf of the City of Sugar Land by developing a wide variety of local art programs, educational events, art exhibitions and performing art events while maintaining the on-going public arts efforts. The ideal candidate must maintain a knowledge and appreciation of Sugar Land public art efforts to develop policy and entrepreneurial initiatives that support and enhance the community’s artistic and cultural amenities. An understanding of cultural affairs programs, characteristics, services and activities is vital for success in this role. The perfect candidate would be willing to act as a liaison for the City to Arts and Cultural organizations in the community.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of relationship building, professionalism and dependability.

What We Need from You a Cultural Arts Manager
As our Cultural Arts Manager, you will manage the City of Sugar Land’s Public Art Plan. You will be expected to promote cooperation and collaboration amongst the local and regional cultural arts communities by facilitating public discussions on issues affecting the arts community and respond to and participate in community events related to arts and culture. You will be responsible for managing the Cultural Arts Coordinator daily. Much of your day will be spent implementing cultural arts initiatives for the City. This position will foster strategic projects such as envisioning of future Cultural Arts facility, utilization of Sugar Land Auditorium, pursuing Film Friendly status, etc.
The ideal candidate is hard-working, patient and detail oriented. You update the City Public Art Plan in conjunction with City Council’s goals. You are diligent and able to multi-task, so your work gets completed in an organized fashion. You follow through and are accountable for all actions. When an emergency situation arises, you are not easily flustered, but are willing to work hard to help in any way designated by your leadership team. At the end of the day, you get great satisfaction out of successfully revitalizing the City’s cultural arts program by making with City of Sugar Land the ideal community for Cultural Arts programs. If you can do those things and meet the following requirements, we would be happy to speak with you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Urban Planning, Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Marketing or a related field from an accredited school or university. Master of Fine Arts, Arts Administration preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Arts, Culture, or event marketing/communications parks recreation, or related discipline.
- Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License
